Shri. V.M. Sudheeran , esteemed leader of Congress , was born on May 26, 1948 at Padiyam village
in Anthikad, as the son of Vailoppilly Shri. Sankaran Mama and Smt. Girija.
As one actively associated in students’ and youth movements, right from an early age, Shri. Sudheeran
has held many high offices in this regard, including serving as President, KSU during 1971-73, and
President, KPYC during 1975-77. During 1977-79, he was also General Secretary, Indian Youth
Shri. Sudheeran became elected to the 6th KLA in 1980 and in the subsequent Assemblies of 1982,
1987 and 1991, all from the Manalur Constituency. He was the Minister for Health from 20.4.1995
to 9.5.1996 in the Ministry headed by Shri. A.K. Antony.
Earlier, Shri. Sudheeran had graced the Seat of Speaker in the 7th KLA from 8.3.1985 to 27.3.1987.
Again, as Chairman of Legislature Committees, he had chaired Estimates Committee during 1982-84
and the Committee on Private Members’ Bills and Resolutions during 1984-85.
In 1990-91, he was the General Secretary of KPCC and Vice President of KPCC. He has also for long
been a member of AICC. Shri. Sudheeran also has had a remarkable stint as Member of LokSabha, getting elected during
1977-79, 1996-97, 1998-99 and 1999-2004, all from the Alapuzha Constituency.
As an MP, Shri. Sudheeran was Member, Committee on Railways during 1996-97, Member, Committee on Human
Resources Development and Convenor of its Sub Committee on Education during 1998-99 and also
during 1999 – 2000. During 1998-99, he was also Member of National Shipping Board and Coir
Board, and during 2000-2001 he was a Member of Ethics Committee.
Smt. Latha is his wife and they have one son and one daughter .
