Shri. T. Sivadasa Menon, teacher turned political leader, was born as the son of Shri. V.S.K.Panicker on
14th June 1932 at Mannarghat.
Starting his career as a teacher in the KTM High School, Mannarghat, Shri Menon later became its
Head Master. He has been actively involved in organising teachers’ unions, and after holding important
positions in this field, he rose to become a prominent leader of the CPI(M).
A founder member of the Private High School Teachers’ Union in Malabar in 1958, he also served as
the Malabar Regional President of the Kerala Private Teachers’ Federation that year, and General
Secretary, KPTU from 1975 to 1980.
Shri. Sivadasa Menon became elected to KLA in 1987, 1991 and in 1996 as a CPI(M) candidate from
Malampuzha Constituency. He was the Minister for Electricity and Rural Development from 02.04.1987
to 17.06.1991 in the E.K.Nayanar Ministry. He later served as the Minister for Finance, from 20.05.1996
to 13.05.2001, in the Nayanar Ministry. He has also had a remarkable stint as Chairman of the
Committee on Public Accounts from 1993 to 1996.
He has also been the Secretary, CPI (M), Palakkad District committee and Member, CPI (M) State
Secretariat. Shri. Sivadasa Menon was also at different times, Member, Calicut University Syndicate for eight years,
Member, Faculty of Education and Kerala State Education Advisory Board.
Smt. T.K. Bhavani is his wife, and they have two daughters.
