Shri. T.M. Jacob, renowned Parliamentarian and senior Kerala Congress leader, was born on 16th
September, 1950 as the son of Shri. T.S. Mathew and Smt. Annamma Mathew.
Entering politics while a student, he subsequently became a Member of the Kerala Congress in 1964.
Shri. Jacob was the General Secretary of K.S.C, the student wing of Kerala Congress, in 1971. From
1972 to 1975 he was its State President and during 1976-78 he was President of K.Y.F.
Shri. T.M. Jacob became elected to the Kerala Legislative Assembly for the first time in 1977, from
Piravom constituency and remained a member consecutively from 5th K.L.A to 11th K.L.A., representing
Piravom and Kothamangalam constituencies .
From 24.05.1982 to 25.03.1987 Shri. Jacob served as the Minister for Education in the Ministry
headed by Sri. K. Karunakaran. From 29.6.1991 to 16.3.1995 he was the Minister for Irrigation
and Cultural Affairs in the Ministry headed by Shri. K. Karunakaran. Shri. T.M. Jacob handled the
same portfolio, in the Ministry of Shri A.K. Antony from 22.3.1995 to 9.5.1996. Again , from
17.05.2001 to 29.08.2004, he was the Minister for Water Resources in the Ministry headed by
Shri A.K. Antony. He served as the General Secretary of Kerala Congress from 1979 to 1982 and from 1987 to 1991.
He was also an elected Member of the Kerala University Academic Council of the Faculty of Law.
Shri. Jacob is presently the Parliamentary Party leader of Democratic Indira Congress (K).
A gifted writer as well, his literary accomplishments include the books ‘Ente China Paryadanam
(Malayalam) and ‘ My China Diary’ (English).
His wife is Smt. Annie Jacob and they have one son and one daughter.
