Shri. Nalakathu Sooppy, lawyer and senior Muslim League leader was born on 15th August, 1946 as
the son of Shri. Nalakath Moideen and Smt. Mariyumma.
Starting political career as a worker of M.S.F. , he had served subsequently as President, Malappuram
District Muslim Youth League (1980-84), and President, Grama Panchayat, Thazhakode (1979-91).
Shri. Sooppy became elected to KLA, in 1980 and won consecutively from the 6th to the 11th KLA
contesting from the same constituency of Perinthalmanna as a Muslim League Member.
Shri. Sooppy served as the Minister for Education from 26.5.2001 to 29.8.2004, in the Ministry
headed by Shri. A.K. Antony.
Along with, he was the Chairman, Committee on the Welfare of Backward Class Communities during
1993-96, Committee on Government Assurances during 1996-98 and since 2004 he is the Chairman
of the Committee on Estimates.
Shri. Sooppy is presently Working Committee Member of Kerala State Muslim League, and Member of
Muslim League State Secretariat. He is also Chairman, Kerala State Backward Class Liberation Front and Working Committee Member, Jamia Nuryia, Faisabad. He also holds Presidentship of various
social organisations and trade unions of Public Undertakings.
Smt. Rajeena Sooppy is his wife and they have one son and two daughters. |
