Shri. S. Varadarajan Nair, veteran Congress leader, was born on 28-10-1914 as the son of Shri. P.
Rajagopalachary.
He had actively participated in the freedom movement.
Entering politics as an active member of INC in 1943, he had also been detained in 1947.
He became the Mayor of Trivandrum city Corporation subsequently from 1947 to 1948..
Shri Varadarajan Nair was elected to the 4th KLA from Vilappil constituency, as Congress (R) candidate
and to the 5th KLA as Indian National Congress member, from Nemom constituency.
In the Ministry headed by Shri. P.K. Vasudevan Nair, he was the Minister for Finance from 29-10-1978 to
7-10-1979.
He held important positions in the Congress as DCC President and Vice-President, KPCC. He attended
the ILO session at Geneva as the workers’ representative. Shri. Nair had also served as President,
INTUC, KSRTC Workers Union and the Sramic Congress .
His wife is Smt. Kamalamma and they have 3 daughters and 2 sons.
Shri S. Varadarajan Nair expired on 14.10.1989.
The Assembly paid its homage to him on 23.1.1990.
