Shri. R.S.Unni, veteran trade union leader and senior RSP leader, was born on 18th February, 1925 as
the son of Shri. Raman Unni.
Even during his school days, he was interested in politics and was the General Secretary of Kerala
Students’ Congress. He had undergone imprisonment for participating in the ‘Agitation for Responsible
Government in Travancore’. After independence, he joined KSP and later RSP and was the Central
Committee Member of RSP and President of UTUC.
Shri. R.S. Unni became elected to 3rd KLA as an RSP Member from Iravipuram constituency, and
represented the same constituency right up to 7th KLA, consecutively.
From 31.10.1970 to 22.03.1977 Shri Unni served as the Deputy Speaker of KLA. He also performed
duties of the Office of the Speaker from 09.05.1975 to 16.02.1976.
From 25.01.1980 to 20.10.1981 Shri Unni also served as the Minister for Local Administration in
the Ministry headed by Shri. E.K.Nayanar.
He also served as the Chairman of Public Undertakings Committee from 1970 to 1975 and Subordinate Legislation Committee from 1971 to 1975.
During 1978-1980, he served for some time, as Secretary of the RSP Committee.
His wife is Smt.G.Radhamma and they have one daughter.
Shri. R.S. Unni expired on 17.02.1999.
The Assembly paid its homage to him on 26.02.1999.
