Shri. P.S. Sreenivasan, renowned Communist leader, was born at Ullala in September 1923 as the
son of Shri. Koppuzha . K. Krishnan.
Entering active politics through the students movements and the State Congress, he joined CPI in
1943. During the Diwans’ rule he was imprisoned for 16 months and later also, he had to undergo
three years imprisonment.
Shri. Sreenivasan was elected to Kerala Assembly in 1960, 1967 and 1970 from Vaikom as a CPI
candidate . In 1977 he was elected from Aroor, and in 1980 from Sherthalai. Again, he was elected
in 1987 and 1991 from Karunagappally constituency.
Shri. Sreenivasan served as the Minister for Transport and Electricity from 4.10.1970 to 24.9.1971,
in the Ministry headed by Shri. C. Achutha Menon, and as the Minister for Industries and Forests from
18.11.1978 to 7.10.1979, in the Ministry headed by Shri. P.K. Vasudevan Nair. Again, from 25.1.1980
to 20.10.1981 he was the Minister for Revenue and Fisheries, and from 26.3.1987 to 17.6.1991,
he was the Minister for Revenue and Tourism, in the Ministries headed by Shri. E.K. Nayanar.
During his long political career, Shri. Sreenivasan had served as President, Kerala Karshaka Thozhilali
Federation, Kerala Coir Thozhilali Federation, and Kerala Hospital Employees Association, Treasurer
and Secretariat member of Kerala State Council of CPI and as Senate member of Kerala University, for
two terms. Besides being the member, Executive of the Kerala State Council of CPI, he had also
served as Leader of CPI Parliamentary Party.
Smt. Bharathy is his wife and they have one son.
Shri. P.S. Sreenivasan expired on 9.7.1997.
The Assembly paid its homage to him on 14.7.1997.
