Shri. P. Raveendran, renowned leader of CPI, was born on November 14, 1922, as the son of Shri.
Padmanabhan.
A law graduate, he was actively involved in Co-operative movement and trade union sector, and had
also been imprisoned, for political reasons.
Shri. Raveendran was elected also to Travancore-Cochin Legislative Assembly in 1951 and 1954.
Shri. Raveendran became elected to the Kerala Legislative Assembly in 1957 and 1960 from Eravipuram,
and 1967 and 1970 from Chathannur.
Shri. Raveendran also served as the Minister for Industries, Labour and Forests from 1..11..1969 to
1..8..1970 in the Ministry headed by Shri. C. Achutha Menon. In 1987 and 1996 he was again
elected from Chathannur constituency. Shri. Raveendran was the Pro-tem Speaker of the tenth KLA in
1996.
Besides holding important positions in the Handloom, Cashew and Co-operative Sectors, he had
served as Member, State Executive of CPI and Secretary, CPI Legislature Party. He has also won the
Sadanandan Award for the Best Co-operator.
Smt. Savithrikutty is his wife and they have one daughter. Shri. P. Raveendran passed away on 13..11..1997, while serving as member.
The Assembly paid its homage to him on 8..12..1997.
