Shri. P.P.Ummer Koya, well known educationist and freedom fighter, was born on 1.7.1922 at Kozhikode. Starting his political career quite early in life, Shri Ummer Koya had been elected to the Madras Legislative Council in 1954.

After the State reorganisation, Shri Ummer Koya became elected to the 1st KLA and 2nd KLA from Manjeri Constituency, contesting as a Congress Member.

Shri. Koya held the portfolio of Education from 22.02.1960 to 26.9.1962, in the Ministry headed by Shri. Pattom Thanu Pillai. From 26.9.1962 to 10.9.1964, he handled the Portfolio of Public Works, in the Ministry headed by Shri. R.Sankar.

He had served as the Vice President of K.P.C.C. He had also a remarkable stint as a member of the Kerala Public Service Commission.

Shri. Ummer Koya expired on September 1, 2000.

The Assembly paid its homage to him on December 21, 2000.
