Shri. P.M. Abubacker, senior leader of the Muslim League, was born on 1.7.1932 as the son of Shri.
V.C. Mohammed Koya.
Entering public life through Muslim Students Federation, he was Kozhikode District Secretary and
State Joint Secretary of Muslim League. He was also a Councillor of Calicut Corporation for more than
a decade, from 1962 to 1974, and had served twice as its Deputy Mayor .
Shri. Abubacker became elected to Kerala Legislative Assembly for the first time in the Third Kerala
Legislative Assembly from Calicut constituency, as a Muslim League candidate. He was again elected
to the 5th, 6th and 7th KLA from Calicut and to the 8th and 9th KLA from Koduvally and Guruvayoor
constituency respectively. Shri. Abubacker resigned his membership from 9th KLA on 9.4.1994.
In the Ministry headed by Shri. E.K. Nayanar, Shri. Abubacker was the Minister for Public works from
25.1.1980 to 20.10.1981.
He had also served for a term as Chairman of the Committee on Estimates from 1991 to 1994.
During a long public life, he also served as a Member of the Calicut University Senate, Member, Khadi Board, President, Mavoor Gwalior Rayons STU and Vice Chairman, Kerala State Financial Enterprises
, besides holding important positions in the Party as Member, Executive Council of IUML and in the
High Power Committee of Muslim League.
He has published many articles and has authored a book on prison life.
His wife is Smt. M.P. Sainabi and they have four sons and one daughter .
Shri. P.M. Abubacker expired on 17.10.1994.
The Assembly paid its homage to him on 30.3.1995.
