Shri. P.K. Velayudhan, Congress leader, was born as the son of Shri. Kunjayyappan on 4th September
1946, at Karanchira, Thrissur.
Even during his student life, he was an active worker of Congress , and worked for the upliftment of
depressed classes. He was a leading sportsman too. In 1971, he was the Captain of Calicut
University Athletic team, and was Champion athlete of St. Thomas College, Thrissur and of Thrissur
district. He had also represented the University of Calicut in All India University Athletic meet at
Jabalpore in 1969, Cuttack in 1970 and Baroda in 1971.
Shri. P.K. Velayudhan became elected to the KLA, for the first time in 1980, from Pandalam constituency
as a Congress candidate . In 1982, he was again elected from Njarakkal constituency.
He served as the Minister for Community Development, in the Ministry headed by Shri. K. Karunakaran
from 1..9..1983 to 25..3..1987.
He had also chaired the Committee on the Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes from
1980 to 1982. Shri. Velayudhan has also served at different times, as General Secretary, Bharatiya Depressed Class
League State Committee, President, Harijan Youth League State Committee; President, State Harijan
Students League, Member, Youth Congress State Executive and State Harijan Advisory Committee.
He was also Member, Kerala University Senate, Member, KPCC, President, Kerala Aquatic Association,
and President, KSRTC United Labour Organisation.
Smt. P.V. Girija is his wife.
Shri. P.K. Velayudhan expired on 25..5..2003.
The Assembly paid its homage to him on 16..6..2003.
