Shri. P.K. Raghavan, senior CPI leader was born on 11.10.1109 ME, at Sooranad, as the son of
Shri.Kunjathan.
Entering politics even while being a student, he became a member of Central Travancore Karshaka
Thozhilali Union, and later in 1953 joined the Communist Party. Shri. Raghavan was active in trade
Union field as well, and had served as Secretary, Karshaka Thozhilali Union, General Secretary, Kerala
Karshaka Thozhilali Federation, and Secretary, National Committee of Bharathiya Chethu Mazdoor
Union.
Shri Raghavan became elected to the Kerala Assembly in 1967 and 1970 from Pathanapuram
constituency as a CPI candidate. In the eighth KLA he represented Vaikom constituency.
Shri. P.K. Raghavan was the Minister for Harijan Welfare and Housing from 4.10.1970 to 24.9.1971
in the Ministry headed by Shri. C. Achutha Menon. Again, from 2.4.1987 to 17.6.1991, he was the
Minister for SC&ST Development, in the Ministry headed by Shri. E.K. Nayanar.
He has been a Member, CPI State Secretariat; President, State Karshaka Thozhilali Federation, and
General Secretary, Pulayar Maha Sabha. Smt. P. Saraswathy is his wife, and they have one son and two daughters.
Shri P.K. Raghavan expired on 19th August, 2005.
