Shri. O. Koran, renowned socialist leader, was born in August 1919.
A teacher by profession, he later entered the social and political field and served as Vice-President of
Malabar Kisan Panchayat, President of Malabar Harijan Samaj during 1940-63, and member of the
State Executive Committee of Kisan Panchayat. A devoted activist of Harijan upliftment work, he was
also the Joint Secretary of PSP and later SSP.
Shri. Koran was also a member of Madras Legislative Assembly previously from 1952 to 1956
representing Alathur Constituency.
Shri. Koran became elected to the Kerala Legislative Assembly in 1960 from Nileshwar, and in 1967
from Kuzhalmannam, as an SSP candidate.
He was also the Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation from 1..11..1969 to 1..8..1970 in the Ministry
headed by Shri. C. Achutha Menon.
Subsequently joining the Janatha Party, he became its State Committee Member, and President of its
Farmers’ wing, “Karshaka Janata.” He had also been a Director Board Member of the Cochin Ship
yard.
Shri Koran has 3 sons and 4 daughters.
Upon his demise the Assembly paid its homage on 6..7..1981
