Shri. N.M.Joseph, Professor and political leader, was born as the son of Shri.Joseph Mathew on 18.10.1943

Entering politics through KSU and Youth Congress, he became State Vice-President of Youth Congress (O) and later joined the Janatha Party in 1977. Shri. Joseph had been working as a Professor in St.Thomas College, Palai.

Prof. Joseph became elected to the 8th KLA from Poonjar constituency contesting as Janatha Party Member. He served as the Minister for Forests from 14.04.1987 to 17.06.1991 in the E.K.Nayanar Ministry. Prof. Joseph had held other important positions as well, in different walks of life .

Before his election to Kerala Legislative Assembly, he was the Member of Kerala University Senate from 1980 to 1984. He was the Vice-President of Janatha Party and its District Committee President.

From 1981 to 1984 he served as the General Secretary of the All Kerala Private College Teachers Association (A.K.P.C.T.A.) . He has also been, for some time, President of Palai Marketing Society.

His wife is Smt. Elizabeth Joseph, and they have one son and one daughter.
