M.K. KRISHNAN

 

Shri. M.K. Krishnan, renowned Communist leader, was born on 15.1.1924, as the son of Shri. M.K. Kannan.

Keenly interested in the upliftment of the Backward classes, even from student days, he had been an active worker of the Cochin Pulaya Maha Sabha, and was its General Secretary during 1947-50.

Joining the Communist Party in 1947, he later became the State Committee Member of the CPI (M). Shri. Krishnan became elected to the 3rd KLA from Kunnathunadu reserved constituency as CPI (M) Member. He was the Minister for Forests and Harijan Welfare in the Ministry headed by Shri. E.M.S. from 6.3.1967 to 1.11.1969.

Getting elected later to the 5th KLA from Koyalmannam and to the 6th KLA from Njarakkal, Shri Krishnan handled the portfolio of Harijan Welfare in the Ministry headed by Shri E.K. Nayanar from 25.1.1980 to 20.10.1981.

He had also served as the Chairman of Public Accounts Committee from 1977 to 1979.

Shri. Krishnan became a Member of the Lok Sabha, from 1971 to 1977.

Smt. Rugmini is his wife and they have three sons and two daughters.

Shri. M.K. Krishnan expired on 14.11.1995.

The Assembly paid its homage to him on 6.3.1996.
