Shri. M.P. Govindan Nair, Congress leader, was born in April 1928, as the son of Shri. Parameswaran Pillai and Smt. Kunjukutty Amma. A lawyer by profession, he had served as President of Vijayapuram Panchayat, and was president of a number of trade unions. He had served as Member of Congress Party Executive and was also closely associated with the Bharat Sevak Samaj.

Shri. Govindan Nair became elected to the Second Kerala Legislative Assembly in 1960 from Kottayam constituency, as a Congress candidate. He served as the Minister for Health, in the Ministry headed by Shri. R. Sankar from 9.10.1962 to 10.9.1964.

Shri. Govindan Nair had, later, served as Chairman, KFC and Meat Products of India Ltd. He has been Director Board Member and Executive Council Member of NSS. Besides, he has been President of Kerala Bar Federation and Urban Co- operative Banks Federation. He had also served as Member in the Committee on Co-operative Banks for the Reserve Bank of India. Presently, he is a Member of the Disciplinary Action Committee of KPCC.

Smt. B. Sarada Devi is his wife, and they have one daughter .
