Shri. M.K. Hemachandran, Advocate and Congress leader, was born on January 6, 1925 at Puthuppally
as the son of Shri. P.K. Panicker. Becoming a part of State Congress movement as a student, he
served later in the Indian Military for five years, during the Second World War.
Returning to active politics , Shri Hemachandran held important positions in the party including Member,
Pradesh Congress Committee during 1958, General Secretary and later President , Quilon DCC, Treasurer,
KPCC and General Secretary, KPCC.
Shri Hemachandran became elected to the 5th Kerala Legislative Assembly in 1977, contesting from
Aranmula constituency as an INC candidate.
Shri. Hemachandran was the Minister for Finance from 11.4.1977 to 25.4.1977 in the Ministry
headed by Shri. K. Karunakaran and held the same portfolio from 27.4.1977 to 27.10.1978, in the
Ministry headed by Shri. A.K. Antony .
He had also served at different times, as Chairman, Kerala Public Service Commission, Chairman,
KFC, Member, Kerala Khadi and Village Industries Board and Member, State Prohibition Board.
Shri. Hemachandran expired on 27.1.1998.
The Assembly paid its homage to him on 23.4.1998.
