Shri. K.M. George , the veteran leader, lawyer and Journalist, was born on January 18, 1919.
Entering politics as an active worker of the Indian National Congress in 1941, he later became the
General Secretary of KPCC during 1953-55. He was also the editor of ‘Deepika’ and ‘Powradhwani’ for
some time.
Shri. K.M. George became a member of Travancore - Cochin Legislative Assembly during 1954-56.
Shri. George subsequently became elected to the Kerala Assembly in 1957 and 1960 from Muvattupuzha
constituency as a Congress candidate. The Founder-Chairman of Kerala Congress in 1964, Shri.
George was later elected to the Assembly in 1967 and 1970, also from Poonjar as a Kerala Congress
Candidate , and was the leader of Kerala Congress Legislature Party.
Shri George was the Minister for Transport and Health from 1.11.1969 to 1.8.1970 in the Ministry
headed by Shri. C. Achutha Menon. In the next Achutha Menon Ministry too, he served as the Minister
for Transport from 26.6.1976 to 11.12.1976.

He had also a remarkable stint as Chairman of Public Accounts Committee, Subordinate Legislation
Committee and Committee on Private Members Bills and Resolutions.
Smt. Marthamma is his wife and they have 3 sons and 2 daughters. Shri. Francis George M.P. is his
son.
Shri. K.M. George expired on 11.12.1976 while serving as Minister.
The Assembly paid its homage to him on 20.12.1976.
