K. CHANDRASEKHARAN

 

Shri. K. Chandrasekharan, leading lawyer of the High Court and senior leader, was born as the son of Shri. K. Rama Varma on September 22,1921 at Trichur. A law Graduate from Madras Law College, Shri. Chandrasekharan had been active in the student movements in Madras during 1943-45. He set up practice in Kasargode in 1947, even while continuing as a member of Congress Socialist Party, which he joined in his student days.
Later during 1957, while serving as President of Kerala Kisan Panchayat , Shri Chandrasekharan contested the first ever election in the State of Kerala, and got elected from Hosdurg constituency, as a PSP candidate. He got elected in the second KLA too, from the same constituency. And in the Ministry headed by Shri. Pattom Thanu Pillai, Shri. Chandrasekharan became a Minister for the first time. He was the Minister for Law and Revenue in that Ministry from 22.2.1960 to 26.9.1962. Even
though he was sworn in as Minister for Law and Revenue in the R Sankar Ministry too, on 26.9.1962, he resigned Ministership on 8.10.1962.

Shri. Chandrasekharan later became elected to the fifth KLA as a member of Janatha Party from Badagara, and represented the same constituency, right upto the ninth KLA. In the Nayanar Ministry of 8th KLA too, Shri. Chandrasekharan was Minister for Education and Law from 26.3.1987 to 17.6.1991. He was also the leader of the Janatha Legislature party from the 5th to the 9th KLA. He had served as the Chairman of the Subordinate Legislation Committee from 1958 to 1959. Shri. K.Chandrasekharan had been a member of Rajyasabha twice from 1967 to 1970 and from 1970 to 1976.
In the course of an illustrious public life, he has been a member of the Kerala Sports Council, Rubber Board, Bar Association of India and Supreme Court Advocates Association. He has also been a leading figure in P.S.P., S.S.P, J.S.P and Janatha Party in Kerala .
A gifted writer as well, Shri Chandrasekharan has authored many commendable works, ‘Reflection on the Indian Revolution, ‘Let us unite ,’ and ‘The Face of freedom’ to name just a few.
Shri. K.Chandrasekharan is a bachelor.
