Shri. E. John Jacob, renowned Kerala Congress leader, was born on August 23, 1913 at Trivandrum,
as the son of Shri. E. Jacob John.
After serving as a Merchant Navy Officer, during 1927-40, and Commissioned Officer in the Indian
Army during 1942-44, Shri. Jacob entered active politics as a Founder Member of Kerala Congress,
later becoming its Vice-Chairman and Chairman.
Shri John Jacob was elected to the Kerala Assembly in 1967, 1970 and 1977 from Tiruvalla constituency
as a Kerala Congress Member.
He was the Minister for Food and Civil Supplies from 11.4.1977 to 25.4.1977 in the Ministry headed
by Shri. K. Karunakaran. In the subsequent Ministry headed by Shri. A.K. Antony also, he was the
Minister for Food and Civil Supplies from 27.4.1977 to 26.9.1978.
Besides serving as President of Akhila Kerala Karshaka Federation and Kuttanadu Agricultural Cooperative
Society, he was closely associated with the welfare activities of the National Christian Council.
Smt. Saramma Jacob is his wife and they have four sons and one daughter.
Shri. John Jacob expired on 26..9..1978 while serving as a Minister.
The Assembly paid its homage to him on 19.2.1979.
