Shri. E. Ahamed, Advocate and veteran Muslim League leader, was born at Cannannore on April 29,
1938 as the son of Shri. O.Abdul Khader Haji and Smt. Nafeesa Beevi.
One of the founder members of the Kerala Muslim Students’ Federation and its General Secretary
during 1957-62, Shri. Ahamed enrolled as an Advocate of Kerala High Court and set up practice in
Tellichery District Court under Shri. V. Khalid who later became Judge of High Court.
Shri. E. Ahamed became elected to the Kerala Legislative Assembly in 1967 from Cannannore, in
1977 from Koduvally, in 1980, 1982 and 1987 from Tanur as a Muslim League candidate.
He was the Minister for Industries from 24..5..1982 to 25..3..1987 in the Ministry headed by
Shri. K.Karunakaran.
Getting elected to the Tenth Lok Sabha in 1991, he has since been a Member of the eleventh,
twelfth, thirteenth and fourteenth Lok Sabha. Presently he is the Minister of State for External Affairs,
Government of India serving since May 23, 2004.
Earlier Shri. E. Ahamed has served as Chairman, Committee on Government Assurances in Kerala
Legislative Assembly during 1987-91 and as Member, Kerala and Calicut University Senate. Besides, he was the Chairman, Committee on Absence of Members from the Sittings of the House and the
Joint Committee on Food Management in Parliament House Complex in the Lok Sabha. He has been
a Member of the State Executive and National Executive of Muslim League, and its National Secretary.
In addition, he has been the Chairman, Kerala Rural Development Board, Cannannore Municipal
Council, and Kerala Small Industrial Development and Employment Corporation.
He has also led high level trade delegation of Government of India to Gulf countries and has also
served as Special Emissary of the then Prime Minister Smt. Indira Gandhi.
A Member of the Board of Directors of ‘Chandrika’, Shri. Ahamed has his literary accomplishments as
well. He has to his credit, a travellogue - “One foreign journey and numerous memories”, “A story of
Renaissance of Indian Muslims” and “The leader I know”.
Smt. Zuhara Ahamed is his wife and they have two sons and one daughter.
