Shri. Chakkeeri Ahamed Kutty, senior leader of the Muslim League, also has had the distinction of
adorning the seats of Minister and Speaker in Kerala. He was born in 1915 as the son of Shri.
Moideen Kutty at Cherur, Malappuram.
Starting his political career as a Congress worker in 1932, Shri. Chakkeeri was elected to the Taluk
Board, Eranad in the same year. Later, he joined the Muslim League and was elected to the Madras
Legislative Assembly in 1952.
Shri. Chakkeeri Ahamed Kutty became elected to the first Kerala Legislative Assembly in 1957 from
Kuttipuram and subsequently to the third KLA from Malappuram through a bye-election held in 1969.
Getting elected to the fourth and fifth KLA subsequently, he again represented Kuttipuram.
Shri. Chakkeeri served as the Minister for Education from 2.3.1973 to 25.3.1977 in the Ministry
headed by Shri. C. Achutha Menon. He graced the Chair of Speaker from 28.3.1977 to 14.2.1980.
During his long political career, he had served as President, Vengara Panchayat, Member, Muslim
League State Committee and Working Committee and Secretary, Muslim League Legislature Party.
He had also been a delegate to the 23rd Common wealth Parliamentary Conference at Ottawa, in
1977. His wife is Smt. Safiya and they have 5 sons and 4 daughters.
Shri. Chakkeeri Ahamed Kutty expired on 4.1.1993.
The Assembly paid its homage to him on 25.1.1993.
