C.V. PADMARAJAN

 

Shri. C.V. Padmarajan, veteran Congress leader, was born at Paravoor on July 22, 1931 as the son of Sri. K. Velu Vaidyar and Smt. K.M. Thankamma .


He entered politics as a student through All Travancore Student’s Congress during the freedom struggle. Starting public life as a teacher, he later took BL Degree with distinction and became District Government Pleader and Public Prosecutor, Quilon during 1973-79. Shri. Padmarajan became elected to KLA twice in 1982 and 1991 from Chathannur constituency.


Shri. Padmarajan served as Minister for Community Development and Fisheries from May 24, 1982 to August 29, 1983 and Minister for Finance, Electricity and Coir from July 2, 1991 to March 16,1995 in the Ministries headed by Shri. K. Karunakaran. He had also been the Leader of the House for a short period during 1992 in the absence of Shri. K. Karunakaran. He had also served as Minister for Finance, Coir and Devaswom from March 22, 1995 to May 9, 1996 in the Cabinet headed by Shri. A.K. Antony.


Shri. Padmarajan had also served at different times as Vice-President of DCC, Quilon and later its President. He was also President of KPCC from September 1983 to 1987. An active member of the AICC, he has a rich experience in co-operative sector as well. He is presently the Vice-Chairman of Kerala State Planning Board.


He is married to Smt. R. Vasanthakumari and they have two sons.
