Shri. C.F. Thomas , senior Kerala Congress leader, was born as the son of Shri. C.T. Francis and Smt. Annamma Francis, on July 30, 1939 A teacher by profession, he had a long service in S.B. School, Changanacherry before he became a member of the Legislative Assembly.

Becoming actively involved in politics even while being a student , he had joined the Indian National Congress in 1956. However, later in 1964, he joined the Kerala Congress on its formation. Shri. Thomas became elected to KLA in 1980 and has been representing Changanacherry constituency consecutively, from the 6th KLA onwards as a K.C. (M) member. Serving as the Minister for Rural Development from 26.5.2001 to 29.8.2004 in the A.K. Antony Ministry, he handles the same Portfolio in the succeeding Ministry headed by Shri. Oommen Chandy since 5.9.2004.

Shri. Thomas has served at different times, likewise , as District Secretary of KC (M) , Kottayam, State Executive Committee Member and General Secretary, KC(M). Shri. Thomas is presently, the Chairman of Kerala Congress (M) .

Smt. Kunjamma Thomas is his wife and they have one son and two daughters.
