Shri. Sudhakaran, Congress leader, popularly known as Pandalam Sudhakaran, was born as the son
of Shri Kochadichan, on 20th November 1955, at Pandalam.
Besides being a political leader, he is a
promising poet and cine lyricist.
He entered politics while at school, through KSU, and was the General Secretary of the KSU (I) from
1978 to 1982 and Vice-President, Kerala Pradesh Youth Congress (I), and later became its President.
Shri. Sudhakaran became elected to the Kerala Legislative Assembly for the first time in 1982 as
Congress party candidate from Wandoor Constituency. He got elected again in 1982, ’87 and ’91
from the same constituency, representing the Congress Party.
Shri. Pandalam Sudhakaran served as the Minister for SC/ST Development, Sports and Youth Affairs in
the Ministry headed by Shri. K. Karunakaran, from 2.7.1991 to 16.3.1995 and the Minister for
Excise & Welfare of Backward and Scheduled Communities, from 3.5.1995 to 9.5.1996, in the
Ministry headed by Shri. A.K. Antony.
Shri. Sudhakaran held several other important positions as well at different times and was Syndicate
Member, Mahatma Gandhi University, Senate Member, Calicut University. Advisory Board Member, Trivandrum Doordarshan Kendra, Director Board Member, KSFDC and Jury, State Film Award Committee.
A member also of the All India Congress Committee, he is presently the Chairman, Kerala Tourism
Development Corporation.
Smt. Ajitha is his wife and they have one son.
